"OVER 700,000 ROHINGYA REFUGEES ACROSS THE BORDER AND LIVE IN CAMPS."

HISTORY

"The Rohingya are an ethnic group, the majority of whom are Muslim, who have lived for centuries in the majority Buddhist Myanmar.  Currently, there are about 1.1 million Rohingya in the Southeast Asian country.

The Rohingya speak Rohingya or Ruaingga, a dialect that is distinct to others spoken throughout Myanmar.  They are not considered one of the country's 135 official ethnic groups and have been denied citizenship in Myanmar since 1982, which has effectively rendered them stateless."

2015 ROHINGYA REFUGEE CRISIS

Today, the Rohingya have been called the "world's most persecuted minority". In 2015, during which thousands of Rohingyas fled the country on hazardous journeys by boat. Escalating violence forced over 700,000 of Rohingya across the border and live in camps. Still, now over 100,000 live in internally displaced camps in the Rakhine State, without freedom, access to food, clean water, education, and healthcare. This number is just the tip of the iceberg with a long-lasting humanitarian crisis.

According to the United Nations High Commissioner, about 32,000 registered Rohingyas currently live in two government-run camps, near Cox’s Bazar, in Kutupalong and Nayapara in Bangladesh, while it is estimated that an additional 200,000 unregistered Rohingya refugees live nearby in unofficial camps.
